Creating Mood through Colour

Discover how thoughtful colour choices can completely transform the atmosphere and emotional impact of a painting.

Rather than simply copying the colours you see, this workshop will encourage you to use colour with greater purpose. We’ll explore how a limited palette, colour temperature, tonal relationships and carefully chosen neutrals can help you create a particular mood.

You’ll experiment with different colour ideas and see how the same subject can feel calm, joyful, dramatic, mysterious or melancholic depending on the palette you choose. You’ll then use what you’ve discovered to develop a painting with a clear and intentional atmosphere.

This is a practical, exploratory workshop designed to give you more confidence and freedom when making colour decisions.

  • How to create harmonious limited palettes
